Vivekananda Mission Asram (VMA) is a monastic, philanthropic, volunteer and non-sectarian organization founded by Srimat Brahmachari Vaktichaitanya in the year 1956 at Chaitanyapur (Haldia) on the ideal of ‘Serve God in Man’ as propounded by Sri Ramakrishna and followed by Swami Vivekananda.

VMA acquired a legal status when it was registered in August, 1962 as a society under Act XXI of 1961 and its management is vested in a Executive Committee comprising of monks and eminent persons. The aims and ideals of VMA are purely humanitarian and spiritual.

VMA has been providing valuable services through its own Temple complex, Eye Hospital, Ophthalmic Training Institute, Degree College and up to Post Graduate Level, Primary/Secondary/Higher Secondary Schools (both residential and non-residential) for boys / girls and visually handicapped, Teachers Training Centre, Charitable Dispensaries, Community Welfare Centre, Residential Vocational Training Centre for the Adult Blind, Research and Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind, Medicine & Spectacle Dispensing Centre, Braille Training & Braille Books Production Centre, Vision Centres for Pry. Eye Care Services in remote rural areas, Resource Centre for Low Vision Children, Institute of Science for Human Excellence, Forest Nursery, etc.

Having been started in a remote Village at Rampur, Dist. Purba Medinipur, West Bengal in 1956 by a group of selfless monks and householders devotees by the side of a cremation ground with the object of creating a temple of learning, culture and supporting the underprivileged, it has now grown up as an Institution of National and International repute.
